Have you ever wondered how to make pumpkin spice? Or just wondered what exactly is in it? It is a hot commodity in the fall, so it is good to know in case the store runs out of it!
Pumpkin spice, also known as pumpkin pie spice, can be bought premixed at the store. It is a blend of cinnamon, ginger, cloves, allspice and nutmeg. There are different recipes for this, and you can always customize it to make it your own. Some recipes do not call for cloves, so if they are not your favorite you don’t have to add it.
I like being able to mix my own since I usually buy my spices in bulk. I find that it is much cheaper to buy organic spices in bulk on Amazon then to buy the little jars at the store, especially for cinnamon. For the cloves, allspice and nutmeg I don’t go through them as much so it is nice to mix up pumpkin spice to use them up. Because during the fall baking season I go through a lot!
And as I mentioned before, if your store ends up selling out of the premixed spice you can always grab the spices you need to mix it yourself. This is especially helpful when the Thanksgiving shopping is in full swing! That is why it is really good to know how to make pumpkin spice!
The recipe is below, hope it is helpful! Be sure to leave me a comment if you try it out!
